Egoisms - is it good or bad? For discussing this question I give a short story to show that egoism is sometimes better than non-egoism.
So many times I must to hear – you are such an egoist! You think only about yourself.
But is it really so bad to be an egoist just as little?
There is one story which I heard when I was young:
It was the time of the Second World War. There lived two women with children. It was cold winter.
The first mother, whenever she got something to eat, gave all food to her kids. Also, if she found some clothes, she dressed her children in it.
The second mother, whenever she got something to eat, divided the food for herself and for her children. And when she got some clothes, she dressed herself and also her kids.
After the month the first mother died form cold and hunger and her children left alone. Also they didn’t know what to do, because their mother always was done all things in their place.
But the second mother together with her kids outlived the war.
So what is the moral of this story?
If the first mother would be a little more egoistic she would stayed alive together with her children and they probably would learned how to live with their own possibilities in the world. So if person isn’t egoistic at all, then he does wrong to himself. Acting egoistically, i.e., thinking about personal interests, doesn’t mean to ignore other interests. If person thinks about his own well-being first of all, his action also is dependent from other people, if they will be disaffected, then they could negatively affect his own welfare.
And if we look from other side, then acting non egoistically we can make big damage to other people lives – as they kids in the story, whose mother have died, didn’t know what to do, because she always was done all things in their place.
So to be a little bit an egoistic is better than to live without egoism at all.
